Guacamole

The key to this recipe is mashing the avocados with salt and lime juice first before gently folding in the other ingredients. This creates a chunky, rustic texture. The best way to prevent browning is to make it right before you plan to serve it.

Ingredients

  • 1 Ripe Hass avocado
  • 1/4 tsp salt or more to taste
  • Juice from 1/4 lime or more to taste
  • 2 Tbsp white onion finely diced
  • 1/2 Jalapeño or 1 Serrano pepper deseeded & minced
  • 1/2 Roma tomato diced
  • 1 Tbsp cilantro leaves & stems, finely chopped

Instructions

  • Cut avocado in half, remove pit, and scoop flesh into mixing bowl.
  • Sprinkle salt and squeeze lime juice over avocado.
  • Mash with fork until chunky.
  • Add onion, pepper, tomato, and cilantro.
  • Gently fold ingredients together.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Notes

Best served immediately. Cover with plastic wrap touching surface to prevent browning.
